How It Started

Humble Catahoula Kennels property

We didn't set out to become breeders. We just brought home a Catahoula — and that dog changed everything. Smart, loyal, built differently than any breed we'd owned. One dog became two, and somewhere along the way, we realized we wanted to do more than just own Catahoulas. We wanted to help preserve them.

That was over twenty years ago. We're still a small operation by choice. Every puppy is born in our house, raised around our kids, handled every single day. No kennel buildings. No rush. Just the quiet, steady work of raising dogs the way we think it ought to be done.

We don't carry a lot of dogs. That's intentional. Fewer litters means more time with each puppy — more handling, more exposure, more of the small, daily interactions that shape a confident, steady-nerved dog. By the time a puppy leaves here, it's been part of our household in every way that matters.

What We Believe

We're not trying to produce the most puppies. We're trying to produce the best ones — sound in body, steady in temperament, and true to what a Catahoula is supposed to be. That means health testing. That means thoughtful pairings. That means being honest with families about whether this breed is right for them.

The Road Here

Twenty-plus years doesn't happen overnight. Here's how we got from that first dog to where we are now.

1998

A Blue Merle Named Blue

Our first Catahoula walked through the door and nothing was ever quite the same. That dog turned us into students of the breed.

2003

Our First Litter

After years of learning from breeders we respected, we whelped our first litter — in the house, where we could watch them around the clock.

2010

Better Bloodlines

We brought in dogs from working and show lines, not for the papers, but because they improved what we were building.

2015

Health Testing Became Standard

Formalized our screening protocols. Hips, eyes, hearing — if it can be tested, we test for it. No exceptions.

2020

Humble Catahoula Kennels

We put a name on what we'd been doing for years. The name says what we mean — we're not fancy. We're just careful.

Puppies Across the Map

Our dogs live in homes across the US, Canada, the UK, Australia, and beyond. Every placement still matters like the first one.

How We Breed

We don't cut corners on health. Every breeding dog is screened for hip dysplasia, eye disorders, and congenital deafness — the conditions that matter in this breed. We share those results because you have a right to see them. If you ask for test results and a breeder hesitates, that tells you something.

Our dogs live in the house. Our puppies are whelped in the house. They hear the vacuum, the doorbell, kids laughing, pots clanking. By the time they go home, the world isn't a scary place — it's just background noise.

Our Word

"We believe that every puppy deserves more than just a good start. They deserve a breeder who's still there after the check clears. Someone who'll answer the phone at month six, year two, or whenever you need us. When you take home a Humble puppy, you're not just getting a dog. You're getting us — for as long as you need us."

We limit ourselves to a small number of litters each year. That's not a marketing line — it's a physical reality. We only have so many hands, and every puppy deserves those hands. Scale up, and something gets lost. We'd rather stay small and do it right.

Where We Live

We're based in Louisiana — Catahoula country. Our dogs have room to run, grass under their feet, and a climate they were built for. Puppies are raised inside with access to secure outdoor areas when the weather's right.

We welcome visits from approved families. There's no substitute for seeing where a puppy was raised — meeting the mother, walking the property, looking the breeder in the eye. We encourage it. If someone won't let you visit, ask yourself why.
